Project summary:

After 25 years of championing innovative energy initiatives, Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation (WECC) took on the challenge of creating its own commercial office building. The goal: to show energy-conscious developers and business owners how they can build energy efficient, sustainable buildings economically — and why being environmentally responsible can be a smart and affordable business decision.

A showcase for energy efficiency, affordability, renewable energy and sustainable design, the building includes many features, including:

- Permeable concrete parking surfaces and staff patio
- Brick Pavers
- Native landscaping to avoid irrigation
- Minimized site disturbance during construction
- Bio-retention ponds and bio-swales for storm water
- Maximized use of Daylight
- Green Roof
- Photovoltaic (PV) Systems provide 14% of the buildingÕs electrical energy needs
- Solar Domestic Hot Water (SDHW) provide 40% of the hot water needed
- High efficiency HVAC results in 40-45% energy savings
- Low- flow plumbing fixtures
- Low-VOC paints and finishes
- High recycled content on finishes and furnishings

The building was awarded GOLD Certified status from the United States Green Building Council and LEED. As a Madison original, this is a model building with demonstration features that are open for view to others who are interested in sustainability.
